Drug Treatment Centers
Every treatment center has its own specific way and philosophies when it comes to treating addictions. Some centers will only treat certain addictions or specialize in a certain type of addiction or disorder. As interventionists, we have to know which centers would best help our clients and thus have done our own research to find the most sound and professional centers offered.
Not every center meets our criteria. In addition to affordability, we look for professionalism, expertise, open and positive communication with the family and the interventionists. We strive to find centers that focus on and utilize a collaborative approach versus those that are secretive or vague in their approach to treatment. Since our goal as interventionists is to find centers that offer long-term results or potential for long-term results, it only benefits you to give you our own professional opinion of the center. We are independent of the centers as well, so we will give you our objective professional view in order to help you make an informed decision.
Drug rehabs generally fall into one of the following two broad categories: holistic drug rehab or 12-step drug rehab.
Holistic Drug Rehab
The holistic model of treatment essentially focuses on the whole person. It encompasses the mind, body, and spirit. Many centers that fall into this category are inpatient and long term (more than 45 days). Depending on the center, the client, and the length of stay, an individual can achieve long- term sobriety.
12-step Rehab
The 12 step model is based off of the traditional AA approach. This model is more structured than the holistic model and is usually the model most utilized with centers offering short term inpatient (less than 45 days) and/ or outpatient care. It is generally the most popular model. Some centers will utilize this model and then place emphasis on certain areas. For instance, a Christian drug treatment center may follow this approach and place emphasis on the spiritual components related to the addiction.
However, new research is paving the way for a more individualized approach to treatment. Based on the research and success rates, our staff generally looks for centers that are either holistic or offer 12 steps with individualized treatment plans. We also look for centers that do not force their views on the addict because we recognize the vulnerability and state of despair the individual is in when he or she first arrives. We look for centers that focus on empowering the individual rather than those that enforce a victim mentality. In addition to being interventionists, many of us are professionals in the fields of addiction, mental health, criminal justice, etc.. We firmly believe addiction can be overcome with the proper tools and mind set.
