A&E Intervention Show
We are often asked about our views on the A&E show, Intervention. An intervention on A&E is what you should expect to see in some form if hiring an interventionist. We applaud A&E for bringing addiction to the light of many families around the country and globally who may have been dealing with this issue in silence or thought there was little hope or help available. The interventionists are also professional and respected in the addiction and mental health community. Our staff respects these interventionists who have placed themselves in the public eye in order to lend awareness to the public regarding the effects of addiction on the lives of not only the addict but also the friends and families of those involved.
What an intervention on A&E does not show is the countless hours these interventionists must put into the intervention in the form of research, preparation, execution, and escort of the loved on into the facility. It is important for a family not to be deceived into thinking an intervention is easy because it is not. There are many emotions the family will undergo and the interventionist must help minimize those emotions in order for the intervention to succeed. One bad apple can spoil the bunch. It’s the same way with interventions. If one person thinks the addict will not go into treatment, everyone that’s a part of the intervention can fall right into that mind set and guess what, the addict does not go. One person can be the enabler and if that person caves, guess what, the addict does not go to treatment. The interventionist has the difficult task of identifying and confronting these types of individuals before or during the intervention if necessary.
